Communications

Local calls can be made from your villa by dialling the number directly, at a cost of 25 cents per call. Your phone has its own number which people may contact you directly on, from overseas or locally (Rarotonga’s area code is + 682). Calls to a mobile phone is 50 cents per call. For overseas collect / reverse charge calls (not possible to all countries), you can reach the Telecom Cook Islands operator on 015.

The cheapest way to make overseas calls from your villa phone is by using Telecom’s Kia Orana Calling Cards. They ae available at the Telecom Muri shop (up the drive way and turn left). Telecom offers special capped calling to certain countries and these rates are as follows:

Please note that Kia Orana calling cards are sold in $5.40 or $10.40 amounts (the .40 cents is to cover the operator fee). If you don’t want a phone in your villa just contact the office and it will be taken away! If you need to send a fax, unfortunately we don’t have one in the office (it has since died!) but you can go to the Telecom shop as they can send it for you.  A fee applies for this service

For those with overseas calling cards, some access numbers are: British Telecom chargecard: Dial the BT operator on 09 441 to charge calls to your credit card or home phone.
New Zealand subscribers: Dial 0964 09682 for credit card, NZ Direct Calling Card or collect calls.United States: AT&T or Bell Cardholders: Dial the AT&T operator on 09 111.

Connectivity

If you need to send and receive a few emails, make a few phone calls home to tell family and friends that you have safely arrived, and browse the internet, one of the best option is Telecom Cook Islands Traveller SIM pack which costs $49 and is available from the TCI branch here in Muri (Open every day except Saturday 10am – 6pm). 

The traveller SIM pack is for smart phones that are not locked in to your service provider back home and includes a local SIM card which is preloaded with 20 minutes of calling (including international), 100MB data and 100 text messages.
